Water Aerobics:

Although many people consider water aerobics a senior citizen workout, it’s not! Our water classes provide significant cardiovascular benefits. And because of the water’s resistance, it is an effective workout for nearly every muscle and joint in the body.

The gravity effect on your muscles is quite different in the water than on land. On land, gravity pulls the muscles in one direction and in the water, two directions. This helps to shape and tone the muscles; you will soon notice more definition. To increase the intensity of the workout, we use water barbells and foam cylinders.

Watsu® (Water Shiatsu) in the Ancient Waters:

Watsu began in 1980 when Harold Dull started floating people while applying the stretches and principles of the Zen Shiatsu he had studied in Japan. In the Orient, stretching as a way to open channels through which our Chi energy flows is even older than acupuncture.

Ashtanga Yoga:

The practice is an ancient system of yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. Ashtanga Yoga is a daily method of yoga involving synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures. This process produces intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The results are improved circulation, a strong flexible body, and a calm mind.

Jui Jitsu:

A centered and relaxation form of martial arts. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced student, you will be guided through a series of physical exercises to help you to become more empowered, open, relaxed and centered.

The practice teaches you to leverage your opponent with minimal movement and maximum efficiency by blending with their energy and motion. Bill Curry is a Brazilian black belt and master teacher in Jui Jitsu and will be teaching this class at the Photography & Wellness Retreat.

Qigong:

Qigong (Chinese for “light body skill”) is a form of martial arts using a practiced series of techniques to strengthen the body and direct your inner energy in such a manner that the body becomes nearly weightless. You will learn techniques to use your body strength and inner energy to generate a constant forward momentum, creating a lightness and fluidity in your movements.  Qigong promotes physical strength, flexibility, and balance as well as inner stillness, and mental clarity. Become light as a feather in body and mind.

Stick Yoga: (Stick Stretching Yoga)

A practice developed by chiropractor Dr. Arthur Faygenholtz that applies a Stick to body mechanics and movement efficiency. This innovative application enhances functional kinesiology with greater ease and specificity. Explore how to use its natural versatility to open up new pathways for bi-lateral movement and brain health for enhanced cognitive functions while building muscle and strength. There are specific routines for each area of the upper and lower body.
